Born in 1939, Brett Whiteley harboured a prodigious talent from which were borne some of the most iconic images of twentieth century Australian art. Whiteley's body of work encompasses a wide range of media and subjects including landscapes, interiors and still lifes, figure paintings, nudes and animals. He has won the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes and is represented in The National Gallery in Canberra and all State galleries. He holds the record price for an Australian artwork sold at auction. Whiteley died in 1992.
